HCS446 Week-3 Facility Planning-Floor Plan (Birthing Center)
Health care facilities are unique and have clearly defined characteristics based on the needs of the facility or population being served. Poor design may lead to staff, visitor, or patient stress. In large facilities, inability to find a department may lead to frustrations and disorientation for older patients. Poor layout may also lead to staff inefficiencies or fines because of failure to meet regulatory requirements.
Part 1:
Using ToolWire® SmartDraw®, create a floor plan of the facility that you selected in the Week Two Facility Selection and Research assignment. You will add to your floor plan each week. The final floor plan is due in Week Five.
Include the following environmental design elements:
Structure:

- Doors
- Hallways

- Customer service and amenities

Imagine that you work with a team of hospital facility designers. An investor has asked your team to design a bariatric unit for the local hospital. Your team has several opinions for what this unit may look like and would like to work individually at first to develop more options.
Part 1: Individual Work

Create a 10- to 12-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with detailed speaker notes discussing the budget and implementation of your facility. Include the following in your presentation:
- Describe the selected facility.
- Explain how the five project management process groups would be applied to the planning, design, and construction of the project.

As a team, select a health care facility. Research the standard operating procedures for waste management, fire and safety, and disaster management for your selected facility.

- Occupational Safety & Health Administration
- Joint Commission of the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
- Your state's health planning and development agency
- Department of Health & Human Services
- Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments and other agencies as applicable to facility planning
- Identify issues to be considered when meeting the International Building Code for your selected facility.
